cs2261...
hello,
it's 3.08AM in the morning and... i'm still in school!
why?
'cause of this wonderful and amazing module with the code: cs2261
which i realised, when i was talking to mag about it the other day, i really didn't know the module name. but after some checking, it refers to Enterprise Systems Development. (i really was about to type: Enterprise JavaBeans - which is the textbook).
project specs indicate that we have to implement a library system. that will fundamentally include the basic functions such as creating a membership, adding books to the library, paying fines etc. what sounds so simple from a layman's point of view is actually driving me nuts. especially for someone who is a rather weak programmer (*checks the mirror*).
there's currently this other girl seated behind me, and 2 powerful looking indians in front of me that entered the lab around 2.30AM. i think the girl is almost going as nutty as i am. *poof* another 2 pajammy indians have just arrived! (i can almost swear they require no sleep - who can see their eyebags anyway?)
you know, the scale of this project is small, really tiny, compared to cs3214 (8 MCs) or other major programming-project based modules. but honestly, the amount of time it's taking me, is really really a huge opportunity cost.
define: opportunity cost
the cost of a resource, measured by the value of the next-best, alternative use of that resource (by Google)
and here's a list of the alternatives that could have happened over the 1 week that i've been working on this mod:
- study for stats test (which i just took and failed this afternoon)
- work on GE3238 project (lecturer just went away on a conference and we're perfectly clueless~ whee~)
- work on ACC1002X project (we're progressing well... i think...)
- catch up on reading ACC and actually learning how to credit and debit accounts properly (really because doing well for my mid-terms was a fluke - MCQ)
- catch up on reading Econs and learn the horrifying macroecons equations and jargons
- actually reading the stuff in "Learn to Programme JavaBeans 3.0" textbook instead of just copying the codes ('cause i honestly still don't know how to programme javabeans 3.0 if not for alvin's help)
- doing readings related to GE3238 (where the lecture notes are virtually useless unless you have superb stamina of staying awake during lecture)
- watching HOUSE (WHICH I HAVE ALREADY MISSED 2 EPISODES OF THE NEW SEASON T_T)
- watching the CSI series, America's Greatest Dog, Knight Rider, Friends, American Idol (not so important. but it's the ONLY form of quick-relief R&R i have)
- watching WatchMen, DragonBall Evolution, StreetFighter, etc. at the movies with jemjem (which we probably can't catch in time)
- sleeping (extreme necessity for zhuzhus)
and there's of course, a whole lot more other stuff.
i miss jacjac. she'll be awake at this time of the night in Singapore.
still, there's also things that i've learnt camping in this COM1, Programming Lab 6 (it's really just a computer lab):
- nearly NOBODY comes in to clean the lab (there's this cup with some juice in it since LAST WEEK and the same spot)
- this lab is like second home to some people (there's this middle-eastern-looking guy who looks really threatening - [think crazy suicide-bomber], who ALWAYS comes in with a can of Coca-Cola, pops the can, seats himself and furiously type away at something before leaving - this cycle repeats a FEW TIMES each day)
- the chairs and tables are NOT ergonomically designed, leading to backaches, tension in the shoulders, etc. (and i have hence made my resolution to not work in an IT industry in future)
- coffee is powerful stuff
IT'S TIME TO GO HOME.
tell you more next time ;)
